I like the arrangements of elements in the frame (composition), beautiful sharpness of image and fit of subject for the challenge. However, the lighting may not be best suited for the subject which is an organic graceful succulent, harshly lit with a confusing red gel. The flashy highlights on the radiating leaves steal thunder from the focal point, which distracts my eye.

What great light and composition! Even though the light is coming from the camera angle, the shape of the petals separate because of the colors. This is very similar in concept to the other image in the challenge of the cat eyes. The somewhat flat lighting compels the viewer into noticing the shapes and color, and draws them into the center of the frame. My first focus is the greens and yellows at the center of the succulent, and then I get a great payoff when my eye is drawn to the glowing reds in the background. And then those broad reflections add life.

My nitpick comment is that while spatially, I think there is enough of a visual base to support the center of the succulent, value-wise, because the bottom of the frame is lighter than the top of the frame, my eye is drawn to the bottom, and the spatial visual base loses some weight.

Tyree - The vibrant colors of this succulant against the bright red in the backround is beautiful. Good job...note I have left star ratings this time per your request :-)

Nice highlights on the petals which reveals a waxy texture........the background red adds interest and increases depth

Interesting idea to backlight with red Tyree. Nice detail and the focus is spot on!

Your focus is impeccable and I like how the red light used in the background creates a diagonal that leads your eye from upper left to lower right. The specular highlights make this dance! The succulent looks so fresh and plump. And the colors say Merry Christmas!
